East Ridge was incorporated by a private act of the Tennessee legislature in April 1921, with S.M. Hudlow as the first mayor. Its first big public works project was electric lighting, finished in September 1922 with 13.9 miles of lines, and the first town hall went up in 1924 at Marlboro and Ringgold Roads, on land given by the Lomenick family.
